Music is very much at the heart of Alford, with a wide range of musical groups to suit all abilities and tastes.
Throughout the year, many of the musical groups join together to perform to the local community or support the local schools.
A warm welcome awaits you within all the musical groups and they are always keen to attract new members.
Alford Acoustic started as Alford Folk Club in 1998, based on the original club in the 1970s.
Open mic sessions are available to anyone of any age. All genres of music and everyone from seasoned campaigners to first performers are welcome. If you have something to say musically, the friendly audience in Alford will listen.
Alford Acoustic has occasional guest nights and special parties. There is also a PA system and a sound engineer is available on site.
The sessions take place in the function room of the Half Moon pub, which was purpose-built in 1973 for the original folk club. Since then, the venue has benefitted from being considerably modernised and has a well-stocked bar with real ale.
Alford Silver Band is a friendly and hard-working community ensemble led by their musical director Josh Wilkinson. We enjoy a full calendar of performances both indoor and outdoor throughout the year, in which we always aim to provide a memorable musical moment. Whilst we are not a contesting band, we seek to ensure that our performances are worthy of our wonderful audiences, through always striving for a professional sound.
The senior band rehearses on a Tuesday night at their purpose-built rehearsal centre behind the Co-op in Alford from 7:40 onwards. Whilst Brass Tracks, the training ensemble runs from 6:30 to 7:30, led by the assistant musical director and Principal Cornet player, Andrew Taylor. We are currently in the process of expanding our training scheme to allow us to take in more students in Alford and schools from the surrounding area.
If you are a budding brass player or fancy a return to your youthful memories, please get in touch. (No matter what level you are at we would love to hear from you).

The Elizabethan Singers are a mixed choir (SATB) of 30 members. Their aim is to have fun, sharing a passion for singing through polished, professional performances.
Their repertoire is broad, from Elizabethan songs and classical pieces to medleys from the great stage musicals. These range from 1930s pieces by Gershwin and Cole Porter to modern classics such as Les Misérables and The Lion King. They love sacred music too and have performed works including Fauré’s Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria.
If you love singing and would like to join this friendly, dynamic choir do get in touch with their Musical Director, Andrew Willoughby, who will be pleased to hear from you and will give you further details (contact details on the choir website).
